According to the FDA irradiation is an efficient way of purifying food at the highest level, which is the microscopic level. I see nothing wrong with what the FDA says and making food safer and last longer. This helps the consumer just as much as the consumer. If you sold meat you want people to buy your product, right? There is also the huge misconception that irradiated food makes it radioactive which now that I understand sounds...un-intelligent. Irradiation does not make your food radioactive. According to the UW Food Irradiation Education Group, irradiation by gamma rays, X-rays and accelerated electrons, which are the only ways to irradiate food, in a controlled environment do not leave radiation behind in food because it ant be left behind.
