Homelessness: Should They Be Criminalized? Every single day, when I’m in the car with my family member, we always see homeless people or families in the street holding a sign that they don’t have money for themselves to spend on the things that they can afford to get. Me and my family members are always generous to give them money so that they can buy food, some nice clothes, etc. My feeling about homelessness has a huge impact on me whenever I see homeless people almost everyday at different places whenever I’m going somewhere with my family members in the car. According to Lisa Rowe, in Rising Wake Homelessness Points to Lack of Affordable Housing, that old apartments are going to be destroyed to make a new luxury apartments at the price for the residents (Rowe 1). This explains of how homeless people can’t pay a housing payment due to the price of their home. This article tells that, “And a rate at which demolition and rehab older/ affordable complexes is occurring to make way for luxury apartments that price out current renters” (Rowe 1). This quote explains how homeless people can’t afford a home at an expensive cost of a home or an apartment. Then, the reason for homelessness shouldn’t be criminalized in the community is because they had a place for them to stay. Non-criminalized homelessness in public is because it caused by finding a place to stay at. According to Sawyer D’Argonne, in A Growing Issue: Lack of Affordable Housing Lead More to Homelessness, people had stay at their friend’s house when there is no place for them to stay (D’Argonne 1). This shows that homeless people don’t have other family members or friends to stay the night for them. This article stated, “Part of the issue when defining that breadth of homelessness issue is a difficulty to accurately quantify how many people are without reliable housing” (D’Argonne 1).
