Up to 55.5% of students in high schools around the United States play sports, and this number is increasing as the years go by. While this statistic is powerful in itself, most still don’t see the importance of high school sports. High school sports are more beneficial than they are negative for high school students; therefore they should be more encouraged.

High school sports negatively affect the students’ lives because they cause too many injuries. Approximately 3.5 million injuries are caused each year from contact sports (“Sport Injury Statistics” 1) The students feel pressured to perform, so they push themselves and don’t stop until they’re coaches or parents are pleased, or they’re injured (“Pros and cons of Sports Competition at the High School Level” 4).
