Friends can expose you to experience new cultures, foods, and even languages. Cultural experiences are one of the main things gained from friendships. For example, when an individual goes to a Hispanic friend’s house, it is good hospitality and custom to provide food for the guest over. Usually, Hispanic people make traditional food from their country, and therefore, an individual is being exposed to new foods. Additionally, if one spends a lot of time at their friend’s house, they are exposed to the language of that country, and eventually, one can learn it, which has positive effects on mental health. After a death of someone close, an individual goes through seven grieving stages: shock and disbelief, denial, pain, anger, bargaining, depression, acceptance, and death. It is imperative to pay close attention to an individual when they are in pain and in the depression stages. Depression is in the top ten leading causes of death in the United States (US Medical News). Friends have the responsibility to be there for one another and to be aware of suicidal thoughts coming from their friends. It is the responsibility of a friend to help the individual through the grieving time. A friend can do this by providing emotional support, listening to the individual and distracting them from the event. Friends establish a support system; they can assist the individual grieving with the funeral process and arrangements that need to be made so that the individual does not feel more overwhelmed than they already
