This fact sheet, “Guns Save Lives,” from the website gunowners.org states that law-abiding citizens use guns to defend themselves against criminals as many as 2.5 million times a year- or about 6,850 times a day. This shows that firearms aren't always used by criminals for criminal acts. In 1982, a law was passed in Kennesaw, GA requiring heads of the households to keep at least one firearm in the house. The residential burglary rate dropped 89% in Kennesaw and 10.4% in Georgia overall. This shows how criminals avoid armed citizens and extreme gun laws/bans will only embolden them. BBC news states in this article, “Guns in the U.S.: The Statistics Behind the Violence,” that the number of gun murders per capita in the U.S. in 2012-the most recent year for comparable statistics- was nearly 30 times that in the U.K., at 2.9 per 100,000 compared with 0.1. The U.K. has much stricter gun control laws than the U.S. and lower gun murder rates. My claim is still the better choice because guns aren't always the problem, most of the time it's the kind of people that live in a certain area and the gun education. Thomas Sowell states in his article, “The Great Gun Control Fallacy | Thomas Sowell,” that if you look back through history, you will find that Britain has had a lower murder rate than the United States for more than two centuries, and for most of that time, Britain had no more stringent gun control than the U.S.. Even though both countries had the same amount of gun control, the United States still had more murders. Gun control has nothing to do with Britain's low gun murder rate. Britains gun murders have always been lower even when the U.S. and Britain had the same amount of gun control. The problem is not gun control, it is the criminals and kinds of people in the United
