The U.S. has been debating about getting rid of athletic activities for many important reasons. America is lagging behind other countries academically because they focus more on, sports rather than education. Therefore schools should not have sports in order for learners to reach their academic goal, promote student health and cut costs.

People are thinking about getting rid of school athletics in america because they cause children to focus more on sports rather than school. According to Amanda Ripley, in the premont district in Premont, Texas, they were threatened to be shut down because of financial problems and academic failure (10). Some students have been having trouble in schools because of sports, children that are in sports from the schools are having a hard time keeping their grades up because they try harder in sports (Ripley 11). America is removing sports so that the U.S. will have more children with better grades. The U.S. is debating about whether or not they want to get rid of school sports. …show more content…
For example the Independent School District in Premont Texas cut costs, and rather than eliminating extracurriculars they neglected science labs infested with mold (Ripley 11). Ripley stated that the Premont District could not afford to keep the science lab because they were focusing more on sports rather than the science laboratory so it got infested with mold (10). The premont District should not have wasted their money on athletics. Premont has now removed their school sports and it has helped them a great
