Genetically Modified Babies

Would you like to modify your baby? Make him have blue eyes and blonde hair? Is it right or wrong? Its wrong to genetically modify your baby, for many reasons .First reason , it goes against people's beliefs and religion . You believe In God? Well if you do you will definitely think that genetically modifying babies is wrong, Why? God created everyone different , created everyone for a reason , but what happens if you modify your baby , your playing God instead. Why you may ask? because you're modifying your baby , your changing him / her ,you or the people who are doing it, that shouldn't be something you or anyone should be able to do . Also it's wrong because you're changing someone , someone who might or might not have been born and

You shouldn't play God at all , not for any reason . For example have you seen the trailer for jurassic world ? well what did they do? They genetically modified their own dinosaur , it grew up to be smarter than any other dinosaur , it killed its brother and escaped and started to terrorize and kill . All this happens because they were playing God , they wanted to play God and make a creature of their own, genetically modify it. Now imagine you having a baby , it's perfectly normal and healthy right now but you decide to go and genetically modify your baby , it goes all right and then you find out that your baby now can have a form of deformation or mutation , or its sick.If you would have never try and change your baby you would have a perfectly healthy baby. Now genetically modifying your baby is a very very dangerous procedure and deeply problematic. But once you modify your baby the traits , characteristics and disease or mutations , he / she has would pass them on to their kids. Genetically modifying your baby means they have to get a donor for that trait , which means that your baby will have 3 Different DNA and whatever the donor had , like diseases

Being able to design your child with specific traits that give them an advantage would then make a big gap between the rich and poor, being that rich can pick the traits out for a “better child”. This could create even more social separation between the rich and the poor than we see today. The last major ethical problem is that we do not know the true side effects that it could have on the kids in the future. Do we really want to be putting kids at risk later on in their life, just so they can have “desirable” traits, like hair or eye color? These ethnical issues are hard to ignore when thinking about gene therapy, and designer…

You may ask “what are designer babies?” Well, designer babies are when the parents of a baby can choose the phenotypes, also known as your traits, such as eye color, height, hair color, and many more. Although having to pick your own baby’s trait would be nice, there are indeed some ethical and moral issues when doing so. One obvious problem is the cost, the practice is not going to be cheap. As a result, not everyone is going to afford this cost which can lead to a society gap, where designer babies will be smarter and better than ordinary babies.…

Genetic engineering used to be the thing the scientists experimented on plants and animals but now humans. I dont think its right to change the way people live life just to either look a little better or be a little smarter. It's okay in some situations, for instance when someone has really bad pain and it is never ending. We need something to fix it that is not pain killers. Instead we should just have surgery and never feel that amount of pain again but just enough pain to the point where we don't hurt yourself without knowing it (Doc 2).…

Is it okay to allow parents to pick and choose how their child should look, as if they are in Build-a Bear Workshop? Scientists in today’s modern world have made immense progress in the field of genetic engineering. Many have rightfully chided scientists and this new development of errant technology due to the unethical consequences that genetic alteration of children brings. One of those consequences is that a society gap will arise from the manipulation of an embryo’s genes. Additionally, a child’s consent will be to be ignored if their genes are altered without consent.…

Because of the relatively recent introduction of this idea in the medical field, not much research has been done about it. These days, geneticists do not know the extent of changing a baby’s genes; changing one gene to be superior may affect another gene. Making your baby smarter may take away their ability to socially interact, or even worse, may impede a function necessary for survival, such as the immune system! For example, a designer baby born to be smarter could live their whole life in the hospital due to their inability to fight disease! In addition, we do not know if genes also have multiple functions.…

Some believe that giving parents the option of genetically engineering their baby will result in eugenics driven by egoism. People might take advantage of germline manipulation by creating embryos that will be their own idea of what is perfect, thus objectifying and commodifying children. Some opposers even say that because these embryos will not have a say in whether they want to be modified or not, their rights will be taken away. Furthermore, regulating laws ensuring that genetic modification is used only for the correction of genuinely medical genetic conditions as opposed to enhancing a child’s appearance will be nearly impossible. Rich parents will use…

The next reason is that it will ruin the society. When genetic modification becomes acceptable and ethical, where would the borderline for the safety, rules, and regulations be (Barnett 499)? Those who believe that it’s ethical think it could create the “master race”, where humans will have fully evolved with the newer technology to create the engineered babies. This could cause them to become more intelligent, logical, attractive and healthy. This, however, could create a gap in society since those that are genetically engineered are different since they are not technically born as a normal human. The technology created is not tested well enough for it to be 100% safe so it could be dangerous and if it’s not done correctly, the embryo could be…
