Jeffrey Scott Coker a professor of biology at Elon University in North Carolina states, “genetic engineering is actually as natural as any process on earth, and mastering it would enable us to do what microbes do trillions of times every day, but purposefully and with better results” (Coker). Basically, Coker is saying that even though genetic enhancement isn’t been used children still feel unequal to each other. When someone has a great talent to perform a certain type of activity, it is easy to say because they were born lucky. When children are asked to choose their groups in school, they always seem to choose the smarter and much intelligent individual. The ones who were born not so lucky to have the talent of been the smarter or more athletic always get left out. With genetic enhancement no longer will this be a problem, not only will genetic modification help children’s abilities, but it will also help parents conceive healthier …show more content…
A prominent bioethicist by the name of John Harris states, “Given the lengths, many parents will go to seek the best educational opportunities and social advantages for their children, why not instead achieve the desired qualities, such as enhanced intelligence, better health and fitness” (Campbell). In other words, if parents have the right to choose whether or not they want to conceive a child, they should also have the right to choose their child’s abilities. When a child is born with a disease some parents will go to every extent to try to cure their child. Genetic modification will help parents have a healthy baby, no longer will parents have to be worried about their children been born with a certain type of disease. Genetic engineering could also help parents chose their children’s abilities by enhancing them to become smarter, and more
