It is possible to use the mainstream theories of Routine Activity Theory (U2, p11), and of Rational Choice Theory (U2, p14) to challenge genetic predisposition for crimininality. This theories are not completely mutually exclusive with genetic predisposition, but they offer a strong platform to challenge it, in terms of crime motivation.
The Routine Activity Theory
Felson and Cohen advanced this theory as a fundamental for crime motivation. Instead of accepting genetics as an essential variable for crime, The Routine Activity theory focuses on the trifecta of Opportunity, Motivated Offender and Absence of a Capable Guardian (U2, p11).

These rationalisations are dependent on environment/situational factors that are not connected with biological determinism.
Absence of a Capable Guardian
The failure to monitor crime, implement Crime Prevention security measures; Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design; Situational Crime Prevention can make a crime likely to happen. This is caused by lack of planning and action, and therefore not related with genetic factors.
Crime has a higher tendency to happen if any of the three factors above is present, independently of biology or genetics.
The Rational Choice Theory
The Rational Choice Theory suggests that an individual tends to introspectively weigh up the risk vs. reward of commiting a wrongdoing, which includes crimes like theft. The risk can be formal punishment, guilt, shame or withdrawal of a benefit (U2, p14).
This rationale is identical to all human beings, regardless of their genetic …show more content…
The obvious example of a possible time and place for such incorrect discrimination would be the job interviews process. At TNT there are strict guidelines to judge all applicants on their experience, skills and competence alone, regardless of any genetic factors! This couldn’t possibly be any different in this day and age, and quite rightly so.
It is important for the Security professional and all relevant Line Managers to have an ongoing process throughout all individuals employment stages too. This is to ensure that any wrongful assertions on genetics are always refuted at later stages too, especially if crime happens in the workplace.
As part of our duties on my site, we need to perform searches to individuals and vehicles. In order to be fair, we use randomiser equipment, so that the individuals being searched are selected by a random chance algorithm, upon pressing a button. This method ensures that there is no way to profile anyone based on genetic factors assumptions for certain individuals having a tendency to commit crime. Moreover, any individual on our site that adopted discriminatory tendencies towards genetics or ethnicity, would be promptly investigated as this is unacceptable according with our Business
