Freedom In America Essay

Until recently, I have always considered America to be the land of the free, where people of any ethnic background may seek out better opportunities for them and their family, doing so with minimal governmental interference. However, freedoms that we as Americans share today, was withheld from the general public for decades during the formative years of this country. Such freedoms as a higher education, having (personal) religious beliefs, equal employment opportunities, the right to vote, own land, or guns to name a few, were only permitted to a minority of white men in power. In fact, “freedom” as we know it, was violently fought over, consuming generations of people who were mostly indentured servants and slaves. Never has freedom truly been given for fear that the government would lose control over its people and quite possibly global power. The American government has not ceased in its ability to subdue other countries and control the welfare of populations against their will. With its persevering government influence, America has infiltrated countries for resources and control. Seemingly it has become the American way to bust in and take what’s available without the consideration for the previous owners because Americans know what is right based on their beliefs. There is no sovereignty in stripping away the identity of people by forcing laws and religion upon them. The bible did not teach people how to control or dominate one another instead the bible portrayed acts of kindness and lessons how becoming at peace within. I believe many Americans are repulsed by racism and gender inequality as I myself am and are moving forward in innovative ways to create a sound place to call home.
