I believe female prisons should definitely have a larger budget then male prisons, because females deal with more challenges. Our textbook states that “depression is a very common mental health illness among the incarcerated and is even more pronounced among the female offending population because this disorder tends to have a higher prevalence rates among females in general. (Hanser, 2017)” Proving that female inmates need more attention, and more time with a psychologist. Female inmates also need monthly tampons and pads that males do not need. I believe this cost alone should be the number one reason why female prisons should have a larger budget. As well as pregnant inmates who need more medication and doctor visits then males.
