In this day and age the fast food industry has grown into a billion dollar industry. The fast food industry usually comes under fire from the high fat content and tyrannical business practices. However, on the flip side, the fast food industry offers families of low income a means to get good tasting food. In more recent years there has been a movement from less healthy, unsustainable, fast foods to something more healthy and sustainable. Due to the industry 's reputation fast food can be seen as a necessary evil. The high calorie, addicting ingredients and the generally unhealthy characteristics of a fast food restaurant’s menu may seem unappealing to the more health conscious, but to those who don’t have access to healthier alternatives, it is often times their only option. There are healthy options now for fast food. Gone are the days of choosing between generic burger or fried chicken places. In recent years there has been a movement within the industry to push for more sustainability, restaurants like Chipotle maintain that their meat is antibiotic free and from sustainable sources with “100 percent of chicken and pork and 65 percent of beef (in the Northeast, it 's 100 percent of beef) is naturally and humanely raised” (Barnes, 2009). In addition to the restaurants that serve exclusively healthy food, places like McDonald 's and Burger King have introduced more and more healthy options alongside their high calorie staples.
