In 2015, a college fraternity from the University of Oklahoma broke the news when a bus full of Sigma Alpha Epsilon members were heard chanting racist words. Because of this incident, many people have asked themselves if the sorority and fraternity systems are causing more harm than good. The procedure of entering the greek life is the concept of exclusion and is a competition based off of first impressions. If you do not fit a fraternity's stereotype, you most likely won’t get a letter inviting you to join their brotherhood. But at the same time, not all greek life should be punished if they have not done anything wrong. For example, Academic fraternities do not base their standards on whether or not the rushies have good looks or white skin, they base it of the grades and GPA. For that reason I disagree with John D. Sutter’s argument to shut down the Greek system.

The Greek system, helps students form bonds with other students. This bond is typically called the sisterhood or brotherhood. This assures you will never be lonely and the organization can help you make friends for life. Being in a sorority or fraternity can also help you make connections outside of the house including mentors or even guides that will lead you down the right path.
