In 2014, a total of 4,192 people ages 70 and older died in car accidents. That's 29 percent fewer than in 1997 (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety). Older drivers are often seen as annoying or slow, but over the past few decades, these drivers have improved their performance while driving and should no longer fall into that stereotype. People over the age of 70 should keep their driver’s license because they are statistically safer, they can be very healthy and capable, and elderly people know their limits.
A common misconception states that older drivers get in more accidents than all other age groups and because of this they are not safe.
