To end the war between Mexico and the United States the treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo was established. Article X conducted that any territory that previously belonged to Mexico, now within the limits of the U.S. would be respected as valid, to the same extent of the land grants would be valid. Basically meaning that all land grants that had originally been made by the Mexican government would continue to be valid. It seemed as if the U.S. government could see that these lands that were continuing to be owned by Mexicans could be a better profit for Americans. Adding to this, the U.S. voted to remove Article X, and unjustly decided that they would not inform Mexico, nor the Mexicans that had valid land grants.…

When Christopher Columbus sailed to the Americas in 1492 he did discover a land that was very fertile, but he also horribly mistreated the indigenous people living there and took advantage of them because he introduced the spaniards to the Americas, and the spaniards ended up killing over 12 million natives including men, women, and children for no apparent reason. Colombus also traded valuable goods with the Natives for things that were worth nothing. According to Document C, written by the Spanish Dominican friar Bartolomé de las Casas, “...the colonists have devastated the land as well as the people. In 40 years, at least 12 million men, women and children have been killed for no reason...” This shows that in the time that the spanish…

American colonists argued that they were part of an increasingly corrupt and autocratic empire in which their traditional liberties were threatened. The American Revolution was precipitated, in part, by a series of laws passed between 1763 and 1775 that regulated trade and taxes. This legislation caused tensions between colonists and imperial officials, who made it clear that the British Parliament would not address American complaints that the new laws were onerous. During the second half of the eighteenth century, tension arose between the British government and its transatlantic colonies. To maintain the peace of 1763, the British government stationed troops on the frontiers of the colonies.…

Pros and Cons of American Imperialism America is one of the most powerful nations of the world. Its sheer size, economy, territories, and technological advancements make it so influential that many smaller nations or cultures look up to America as if it were a god. Many decades ago, America established its dominance over other nations, particularly during the two world wars by showing off its military prowess and interfering with what are supposedly local affairs of other governments. Imperialism is more of a negative idea than a positive one – it signifies a nation's thirst for expansion at the expense of others.…

After the devastating earthquake that hit Port-au-Prince on January 12, 2010, the Obama administration granted Temporary Protected Status to Haitian immigrants who were already in the United States. This protected status protects them from deportation. The decision of whether to extend TPS depends on one very important factor, and that is whether conditions in the immigrant’s home country have improved that upon return they will not face inhuman treatment.…

Over the past few years, the word “Guantanamo or Gitmo” has come to embody far more than the Cuban bay that lent its name to one of oldest military prison bases more than a century ago; it has joined our 21st century dictionary as a term emblematic of mishandling, deceived, and disregard for the rules of military and civilian law. In rare agreement, there were only two U.S. Presidents that have acknowledged the benefit of terminating operations at its detention facility, but both have tried and failed to close Gitmo. Thus far, attempts to close the facility have not only failed; they have arguably undermined their own ends by releasing belligerents back to the fight and prolonging the conflict.…
