9 January 2018 Dress Codes, if you think about it dress codes are everywhere whether its for a job or for your daily live’s Dress code is everywhere. Almost everyone wears a uniform, for example police officers, lawyers, and doctors but those are for jobs so people can take you seriously. Uniforms are important for when you are working but is it important for school?
For years selected schools were chosen or have decided to have a dress code that students would have to follow. Over half of the schools in the U.s. have a dress code, theirs pros and cons to the situation, for example the pro about having a dress code is the chances of someone making fun of you for wearing something is going to decrease because everyone will be wearing the same exact same thing or something similar to what you will be wearing. The con to a dress code is it takes away the ability to express yourself. Ever hear the saying “it’s okay to be different”. How are we supposed to be different when someone is telling you no or your peers are making fun of you because of something you wear to school that might look unusual then what everyone else says.

I do not think that there is a possibility of not having a dress code. There are dress codes in place for many reasons. One reason is so that there is uniformity. It allows the clients to be able to distinguish who is an employee and who isn’t. It also creates a form of structure and discipline.…

In “White Tops, Grey Bottoms”, Akerman described why schools have a strict dress code which students must follow and cannot break. The writer mentioned the dress code should be accepted with not only white and grey for tops and bottoms but also a variety of colors and design (330-332). This reading reminded me of my own experience with a strict dress code. When I was a high school student, my school also had a strict dress code. For example, all students must have measured the size of their bodies in the school in order not to let students change the school uniforms such as a star mark and kind of a hard plank inside the girl’s skirts, which means teachers can find whether or not the girl students change their skirts.…

Lately, I have been pondering on the harsh dress code rules. When did my shoulders become something I should be ashamed of showing? When did it become a secret that girls wear undergarments? Admonishing girls for letting their shoulders or bra straps show is the most ridiculous form of dress code. Dress coding this harshly can promote negative feelings about their bodies, when they already feel bad enough.…

People have always felt the need to conform to what society approves of. Even though it's good to conform sometimes in order to stay out of trouble, it's also bad to an extent because sometimes people change themselves completely. Usually it's not even because they want to, it's to “fit in”. Everybody should be their own person and be as unique as they wish to be without having to worry about how they’re different to what society expects.…

Dress codes standards send home students every day, all over the country, for being too revealing. Most are girls, and on occasions, boys that struggle with the standards, therefore they should be lowered. It’s taking away from your class time, limits self-expression, and the rules can sometimes not be correctly administered are all problems caused by dress codes standards. The dress code can take away from class time because everyone is more concerned with how we are dressed, rather than worrying about if we’ll do good on our next math test, or studying for the history final. During class, teachers can stop their lesson to tell one of their students that they are violating dress codes, therefore taking time away from class and from other students learning for something that is not relevant outside of school.…

We all know that group of girls who show up to school with their breast popping out of their shirts, butts hanging out of their shorts, and belly shirts that show way too much skin. Obviously, dressing like this to school is in no way appropriate, and should be addressed. Another argument of why the dress code should be enforced is the fact that school is a learning environment and that we should be teaching kids how to dress for the future. By doing this, you are helping young adults understand that wearing a crop top or (for boys) wearing saggy pants to an interview definitely won’t get you a job. Others may say that enforcing the dress code, like providing school uniforms, will help families that are in poverty and will decrease bullying when it comes to making fun of someone’s…

If someone were to walk into a classroom and asked,”How many girls in here have been dress coded?” most girls would raise their hands; however if you were to walk into a class and asked,”How many boys have been dress coded?” none or very few would raise hands. If kids weren’t required to wear a certain dress code, they would’ve the total freedom to come however they feel like. Many people argue that schools who required uniforms are taking the right of the students to express themselves in a unique way; however, schools who don’t require uniforms are promoting students to express themselves by the way they dress and not by who they truly are and their personality, so this makes them feel pressured to dress a certain way to be able to be accepted. This then becomes a social issue that creates competency among them of who wears the best outfit. Some kids may feel superior to others because they might feel “richer” by the way they dress, and the “poor people” start to become excluded from the society. This issue affects parents as well as they don’t want their kids to feel excluded, and be bullied simple because of what they are wearing on the…
