Why Is Anti-Doping Should Be Banned

According to World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), a substance is banned if it meets two of the three following criteria; the potential for enhancing performance, the potential for detriment to health, and violation of the spirit of sport. However, if an athlete has a medical condition that requires them to take the medication, the athlete must apply for an exemption. The World Anti-Doping Agency have a prohibited list which contains; five classes of prohibited substances, three prohibited methods of doping, and four substances banned during competition.
Substances Banned and its sized effect
The five classes of banned substances are anabolic steroids, any type of hormones injection, beta-2-agonists, hormone antagonists and modulators, and diuretics. While the three methods of doping are enhancement of oxygen transfer, chemical and physical manipulation, and gene doping. Furthermore, the four substances banned in competition are stimulants, narcotics, cannabinoids, and glucocorticosteroids.

In January 2016, Sharapova was tested positive for meldronium also known as mildronate, which she had been taking since 2006. Grindeks, a Latvian company stated that meldronium should not be in the WADA’s prohibited list because meldronium only deducing tissue damage and does not enhance athlete’s performance. From 2003 to 2006, Maria Sharapova has won 15 tournaments titles, that is 15 tournaments titles in 3 years. After 2006, she has won 20 tournaments titles, that is 20 tournaments titles in 9 years. As numbers shows, meldronium does not enhance Sharapova’s
