The Pros of a Donald Trump Presidency
American politics have always fascinated me. Where else can you find a medium that discusses some of the world's most pressing issues, while at the same time giving you an opportunity to analyze American behavior as it unfolds upon a political system that has influenced many other countries, including the Dominican Republic.
But let’s be honest, politics can also be very dull, with its insipid candidates, anticlimactic voting system, and laws worded in such a way that would confuse even Joyce. Thank god for Donald Trump! The man has single-handedly managed the impossible: change the political landscape, and get a 17-year-old to turn on CNN. You may be asking yourselves: why on earth would I think that Trump

America’s future vison is continually changing. It appears that regardless of the ideas one sets for America it is never followed through. George Washington, one of America’s first great leaders and presidents, warned the young nation not to allow factions, such as political parties and foreign affairs to take part in United States. My vison for America is that we once again regain a clean slate by paying off foreign debts, allow more advanced teachings in schools, and reducing waste and pollutants. The foreign debt America has gained, in today’s day and age, is the highest it has ever been.…

Following the tragic events of 9/11, President Bush argued for a ‘war on terror’, according to Tom Engelhardt, American officials were “against the idea of a Muslim enemy, as well as against al-Qaeda and the Taliban in Afghanistan, Saddam Hussein in Iraq, and later Muammar Gaddafi in Libya.” (Engelhardt) While the terrorists responsible for the attack were not Iraqi (they were Saudi Arabian) Bush viewed Saddam Hussein as being a supporter of terrorist organizations in the region, particularly Al-Qaeda who was responsible for the 9/11 attacks. Bush also made the argument that Iraq was in possession of WMD (weapons of mass destruction) – despite this being proven wrong in subsequent years. According to Daniel Lieberfeld “The 2003 invasion of…

WOOSTER — A meeting with U.S. House Republicans and Vice President-elect Mike Pence has two area congressmen feeling upbeat about the new administration’s priorities. Republicans Bob Gibbs (Lakeville) and Jim Renacci (Wadsworth) were among those attending a meeting with Pence, who said President-elect Donald Trump wants to make sure his administration keeps its promises made to Americans during the presidential campaign. “It was a good meeting,” said Gibbs, whose 7th Congressional District includes all or parts of Holmes, Ashland, Medina, Tuscarawas, Stark, Lorain, Huron, Richland, Holmes, Knox and Coshocton. “It is an aggressive agenda, and I think the No. 1 thing is that we will keep our promises.” “The most important thing is Vice President-elect…

It was the summer of 1789 and the Constitutional Convention had just finished its debate on a new governing document, which would be imperfect but audacious for it’s time. As, he walked down the streets of Philadelphia that day, Dr. Benjamin Franklin was stopped by a woman, who asked, “Sir, what form of government have you bequeath us?” to which Dr. Franklin replied, “a Republic, if you can keep it.” 227 years later, through a fratricidal war, the stains of slavery and Jim Crow, two world wars, and countless financial crisis’, through both the highs and lows of the American story, I believe it safe to say that we have done exactly what Dr. Franklin implored us to do in so long ago in 1789. However, 2016 presented us with new challenges in what…

My partner and I chose to talk about what was happening on the U.S.-Mexico border. For over a century, immigrants from various Latino subgroups have migrated to the United States under varying conditions. As each group faced factors that helped their transition into the United States, there were factors that hindered their transition as well. Mexico, one of the first Latino countries to send masses of migrants to the United States, and the Dominican Republic, one of the last, share many of these factors that have impacted their economic, cultural, and political lives in the United States including the level of influence on and communication with their home country, the geographic concentration of the immigrant communities, the stereotypes held by Americans towards the immigrants, and the time in history at which each of…
