The tides of time are turning, and with it, the way that things are done. We live in a progressive world with many scientific advances, and politically correct lifestyles. Society is changing for the better, and with it, our schools. Today, more than 3.2 million SMART Boards have been integrated in classrooms all around the world; sixteen years ago, SMART Boards did not exist. Science and technology has sprung forward and helped the world create and discover so much, such as cybernetic implants, cloning, and latest research on stem cells. With the face of advancement upon our whole culture, so too, does the face of PE turn its cheek. The days of stereotypical dodgeball in Mr.Smith’s aggressive gym class are over. During a time where high school students have been exposed to technology since infancy, physical education class has been taking advantage of the situation. It is so easy to get most of the tedious aspects of teaching done with a few taps of a touchscreen, so the majority of the time can be spent on movement and learning. This can be done through a number of ways, but the most effective would be using an IPad. Before technology, teachers were up to their elbows in paperwork, but with the help of an IPad, paperwork disappears. You can use your IPad to take attendance right on a school 's server or online grading program. This is a quick access to tracking attendance, and more efficient than clipboard and paper. In addition, there is an app called Team Shake which greatly speeds up those otherwise time consuming tasks. Team Shake eliminates bias, and runs algorithms to create the most fair team possible (proper gender and skill ratios). Thanks to team shake, less time can be used on coming up with teams, and more time can be spent learning. Organization is another key element to any teacher 's success, and can be achieved through technology. Whether it’s keeping electronic files on your computer, or having a lesson plan ready on your mobile IPad, the work of a physical education teacher can be painless, uncomplicated, and …show more content…
One can only presume an increase in that percentage for teenagers. So with more than three-quarters of students owning smart devices, what’s inspiring them to go outside and get physically active? What if I told you that the phones themselves could do such a thing? With the attitude and influence of a physical education teacher, and the existence of certain apps and technology, students can and will start feeling enabled to go outside and exercise rather than sit inside and play videogames all day. An app called “My Fitness Pal”, serves as a wakeup call for its users, informing them of their healthy or unhealthy lifestyle. With this app, you can log your calorie intake and exercise and track progress, while simultaneously encouraging its practice. In addition to this app, and countless others like it, a device exists that can record your steps, exercise, food, water, and heart rate, known as a Fitbit. A fitbit is a rubber wristband with a technological chip inside that can measure your steps per day and find your heart rate. The Fitbit comes with an app that can also keep track of your food and water intake. These creations are both masters at encouraging students to go out of their way to get fit and exercise, outside of gym

The students found that they were able to brainstorm ideas quicker, obtain new assignments or handouts from their teachers, and the teachers even found that they could use the phones to monitor the students’ attendance. William Ranklin, co-director of mobile learning research at ACU, said in an interview with Bloomberg Business, “This is a new platform for learning, in the same way a laptop or a desktop was a new platform.” (Kharif, 2008, para. 3).
