Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival
DACA, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival, is a temporary work permit program for non citizens. President Trump and his Attorney General Jeff Sessions had announced that DACA will be canceled as of September 5, 2017 (Bier, 2017). One would have to meet the requirements and guidelines set in place in order to be eligible to be a recipient of DACA. Some of these guidelines include being under the age of 31 as of June 15, 2012; one would have had came to the United States before your 16 birthday; you had to have graduated high school or certificate of completion, have obtained a GED, or been honorably discharged of the Coast …show more content…
House Speaker Paul D. Ryan states, ¨These kids know no other country, who were brought here by their parents and don't know another home¨ ( Somin, 2017). This quote brings up one reason why DACA needs to stay, the children do not have a say in most situations. A survey conducted by Tom Wong, concluded that of the 3,063 DACA recipients he surveyed, the average age of the respondents said they were six and a half when their parent or guardian had brought them to the United States (Lind, 2017) . No child should have to be punished for something their parent does to better their child's life. Twenty five percent of DACA recipients have children who were born in the United States (Somin, 2017). This may cause a problem when the parent’s permit expires; they may be subject to deportation. This will cause the child whose parent gets deported unnecessary stress. Many argue that the DACA recipients come here illegally, but as previously stated the average age is six and a half years old when on arrival. In nearly all of the cases the DREAMers, referred to as DREAMers because of an act devised by Obama was failed to pass, did not come to the US by by their own choice, were not legally responsible for their actions- because of their minor status, or both. As surprising as it sounds, many of the recipients didn't even know they were unauthorized immigrants receiving DACA. These young adults should not have to come face to face with the worst case scenario of being deported because their parents wanted a better life for
