To Conform or Not to Conform? Conformity is a life that only leads to unhappiness and a voice that will not be heard. The sheep from Animal Farm chooses to conform through their slogans, while Christopher choose to continue writing a book he was told to discontinue. The sheep unknowingly followed everything the pigs told them to do while Christopher knowingly disobeyed his father. Conformity gives the person a choice to use their voice or be silenced, though both will cause a negative outcome.
The sheep conformed by changing their slogans and would yell them at meetings .The animals on the farm we taught that anything that walks on two legs was an enemy. The sheep had a slogan “Four legs good, two legs bad”. The animals noticed how the Seven Commandments would have minor changes that made a big difference. “No animal shall sleep in a bed with sheets” was a change made to an original commandment. Whilst the first commandment was “No animal shall sleep in a bed” once the pigs started doing it, nobody questioned them.The animals silenced themselves, event on events when they knew something was wrong.On the other hand, Christopher did not conform.
Christophers non-conformity caused a lot of turmoil. His father warned him to stop trying to figure out how the dog was killed. “Just try and keep your nose out of other people’s business”.(Haddon pg.#41).Instead of Christopher listening, he ignored his father so he could figure out what happened. From here on, he continued to ask the neighbor what happened and he didn't stop writing his book. When Christopher's book got taken away, he still went through his dad's things to find it.
