Concealed Guns: Self-Defense or Self-Harm? Does carrying a weapon really lessen your chances of being attacked? Being able to carry a concealed gun has been a controversial topic for years. Many people are for being able to carry concealed weapons because it is a form of self-defense. If someone carrying a concealed weapon is attacked, they will have something to fight back with. However, people who are against carrying concealed guns say that it is not an effective form of self-defense. If someone is attacked, they say the victim will not have enough time to pull out a gun to defend themselves. There are many pros and cons to carrying concealed weapons; both with strong arguments.

One reason why any citizen who does not have a criminal record should not be able to carry a concealed weapon is because it increases the chances of something minor turning lethal. For instance, if a man confronted another man at a bar about something minor, the confrontation could turn into a screaming match and the man with the concealed weapon could shoot the other man. These chances can increase also when the person with the concealed weapon is intoxicated, afraid, or angry. Another reason why citizens should not be able to carry concealed guns is because most adults who carry them are not properly trained. Police officers should be the only ones able to manage public safety so innocent bystanders do not get shot as well. A third reason citizens should not be able to carry concealed weapons is because it can become more difficult for police to be able to distinguish the criminal from the ordinary citizens during a shooting.
