But it wasn’t always a national holiday. In 1937 it became a national holiday, with the help of President Benjamin Harrison and Angelo Noce (the founder of “La Stella” a newspaper). There are many cons to Columbus Day. These include celebrating that the English were the first to find America when the Native Americans were clearly already here. As well as celebrating that they killed Native Americans and took over their land to use it for ourselves. One of the most significant cons of Columbus Day is celebrating a holiday dedicated to a man who took over people’s land and killed them.
Columbus Day is bad because Christopher Columbus wasn’t even the man who found America first. The Native Americans were the first to be there. He took over the land that the Native Americans had first, took them and kept them as slaves. He also killed them and only went on the journey for Gold, God and fame in the first place. There are so many different sources of evidence that shows that the Native Americans were here first including: artifacts found in America that have been here for hundreds of years. Way before the English set foot in America.
