Pros And Cons Of Choosing Physician Alignment Model Organizations

This alignment focuses on physicians that work independently from an organization. In this alignment model organizations create and polish plans and programs that support these physicians. A way this is done is by getting a third party involved to create contracts with various physician groups. These contracts state what services are being purchased and what services will be provided to the hospital. Not only are the services listed but expected performance levels of physicians are also in the contract. This physician alignment contract needs to be clear and concise. There cannot be space for interpretation in a contract because these physicians are independent from the organization.

There are various reasons why choosing this physician hospital alignment would be good for organizations. One reason independent physician programs allow flexibility on the part of both physicians and the hospital. Contracts for independent can be long term or short term based on the convenience of both physicians and hospitals. Along with being flexible, they are also easy to set up.

One of the main downfalls is lack of influence hospitals and administrators have on physicians. Organizations can have very little influence on a physician’s behavior, clinical practices, and over how the spend. Although the required capital investment is less than the physician acquisition model, this model will still require the health care organization to spend enough resources to monitor performance and help improve the operation across the
