From 1976 to 2016, 2,405 people have been put on death row. Of that number only 1,264 people have been executed via Capital Punishment, or commonly known as “the death penalty.” Capital Punishment is a very controversial topic in America. It has prevented criminals from committing future crimes. Unfortunately, Capital Punishment is a very expensive and some would say inhumane solution to a complex situation.

The first official Death penalty enforced in America was in 1608. Captain George Kendall was put to death for being a spy for the Spanish colonies. In 1612 Virginian Governor Sir Thomas Dale initiated the “Divine”, “Moral” or “Martial” laws. These laws would enact sentencing someone for something as simple as

Michelle Knight throughout her captivity multiple times became pregnant and to terminate her pregnancy he would “throw her against walls,” and “hit her with kettlebells in her stomach” among other atrocious acts. The three ladies later confessed that on the anniversary of their kidnapping he would give them a cake. On December 25, 2006 Amanda Berry had a child in his basement in a toddler swimming pool. Castro threatened Michelle Knight saying that “if the baby didn’t survive neither did she”. The baby survived and Castro would often take it with him to places and tell people it was his girlfriend's daughter. On May 6 2013 Castro forgot to lock the main door and Amanda Berry took her and her child and screamed for help as two neighbors came to her aid. Castro was arrested May 6, 2013 on May 8th he was charged with 3 counts of rape and 4 counts of kidnapping. On july 12 Cuyahoga county grand jury gave Castro a true bill of
