“Black people aren’t that good of a race right now”
Today I’m going to be talking about why the way black people are treated is harmful.
At the moment black people are still experiencing oppression and neglection, we do know that this is a country that was made by enslaved people, for white people. Take for instance, film was made to make “normal” people look the best they could. So a color reference card for “normal” film was made, These cards has the category “normal” and always showed a white woman, with black to dark brown hair. wearing bright clothing. In the 1970 problems arose people started to complain about how cameras could not notice the color different of light wood, and dark wood. So camera company’s started to change their formula so film take in a wider variety of colors, specifically brown. And it wasn’t until 1990’s with the rise of diversity in television, did people really try to crack down on problems with cameras and brown hues.

Violence towards black people and police brutality never ended, and rates have gone down, but it has begun to become prevalent in media. It started when in February 26, 2012 Zimmerman kills Trayvon Martin, an unarmed 17-year-old, in Sanford, Florida. He would be charged with murder on April 11 and in July 13, 2013 Zimmerman is acquitted of all charges relating to Martin's death. Then on July 17, 2014, Eric Garner died in Staten Island, New York City, after a officer put him in what has been described as a submission hold while arresting him. Which was overuse of power. On July 6, 2016, Philando Castile was shot repeatedly and killed by Jeronimo Yanez, a police officer, after being pulled over. Philando was in a car with his girlfriend, Diamond Reynolds, and their 4 year old daughter when he was shot and

After the officer killed Castile, the driver live-streamed the aftermath scene on her Facebook account and states that the officer assumed Castile was pulling out a gun instead of his wallet and shot him four times in the process. Some would not consider this to be police brutality, however, the Black Lives Matter movement would surely look at this to be police brutality, as an authority figure caused the death of a young African American. The story is said that Trayvon was walking down the street after leaving the convenience store and George Zimmerman, the watchman, reported of an issue on a young black male causing trouble. When reported he described Martin as suspicious with no reasoning behind it. The only judgment he could’ve taken was the color of his skin (Bell).…

Although Zimmerman was not a officer of the law, the police officers still stood behind him, and they believed his self defense story without reasonable questioning. The controversy of Martin’s murder opened white people’s eyes to the advantages they have compared to African Americans. Social media ran rapid with white Americans “posting testimonials and images to declare that it is precisely because they are not black” that they are allowed to bypass the mistreatment and inequality of a colored person. More recently in 2014, a new hashtag on Twitter emerged “criming while white.” This new trend followed after an African American man was choked by a police officer, and the officer was never indicted.…

For my midterm speech, I plan to argue my stance on racism, more specifically how I believe some of the black culture may unintentionally perpetuate racial inequality. The solution I will propose to this solution is not making the assumption that all blacks want to be associated with these racial stereotypes. I also want to propose the idea that blacks are guilty for these social norms, as are other races. This solution will hopefully lead towards acceptance on all sides of the racial spectrum. I am very interested in this topic because I believe it is one of the biggest issues we face in our society today and is addressed through many different sources.…
