Another reason that birth control pills should be available to teen girls without a prescription is that the pills can reduce the risk of developing uterine and ovarian cancer. Uterine cancer can cause abnormal bleeding, and pelvic pain, ovarian cancer can cause weight loss, fatigue, loss of one’s appetite and abdominal pain. This can all be avoided with the use of an oral contraceptive such as birth control pills. Studies show that women who have been using birth control pills for five years or more, are 50% less likely to develop ovarian cancer compared to women who have never used them.
