The American dream is different for every individual, and while everyone hopes to achieve the dream, it is unattainable. Through lost opportunities and the struggles one must endure, the American Dream of opportunity is no longer accessible to those who hope to achieve their dream.

For example, Fred Zinnemann has directed some of the most honored movies in Hollywood, yet had failed in some of his earlier movies. He is a perfect example of an individual that earned success through their hard work in filmmaking ( Zinsser, 9). Although Zinnemann had worked hard through his career, he was still given the opportunity to create films by someone who took a chance on him and believed in his work. Many people work very hard yet are unable to receive opportunities to achieve their American dream.
