First of all, homework causes stress on students. We may as well just spend all day at school if we are having school at home anyways. Students should go to school, work on “school” work, then come home and not do “school” work at home. This would increase the productivity and attitudes of students. I, for one, would be in a much better mood concerning school if I knew that I didn’t have to look forward to coming home to more school work.…
In May of 1991 Frederick Douglass Intermediate School was in shambles and Lorraine Monroe was given the daunting task of revitalizing the school. As she first toured the school it was hard to miss the blaring signs that the students had no pride or sense of ownership of the building in which they spent their schooldays. Hallways and classrooms were filthy and tagged with graffiti. Windows were broken. Ceiling tiles were “punched out”.…
How could we possibly have homework everyday until Christmas Break because we can have stress, have to do a lot of chores, and doing hard work all week. Most important chores, if you have a lot of chores to do it can waste a lot of time, until you do your homework. If you have to organize the hole house it can take hours until you do you homework. If you go to the store to buy your mom specific type of food it can take probably take you 50 mins or an hour until you find that specific type of food. If you have to do clean the back yard and take out the trash that can cause time so you wouldn’t have enough time to do your homework sometimes.…
If kids didn’t have to worry about getting certain assignments done for the next day, I do agree with Darter that, kids would have more time to be kids. In her article Darter refers to a study done at Duke University. The study showed that “all it does is negatively impact kids’ attitudes towards school, learning, and their parents(the homework enforcers).” This research shows, not proves, that homework does have an effect on studies ability to do well in…
Social Concerns of Incoming High School Families. As students transition to high school, they often experience increased independence from their parents and families (Neild, 2009). Social concerns include “peer conformity” which “peak[s] at ninth grade” (Cauley & Jovanovich, 2006, p. 16). Ninth graders exhibit an elevated sense of self and need for peer acceptance, along with physical and hormonal changes(Cauley & Jovanovich, 2006). The larger school environment may have many students feeling alienated and anonymous amongst their peers, especially since new relationships are formed and old friendships are tested (Neild, 2009).…
In my opinion, school startings will continue to be a serious problem unless you make middle schools start later. Teenagers tend to have troubles falling asleep at the time there supposed to. They have phones witch tend to make them stay up all night. Teenagers chat with their friends or even watch something on their phone. When teens tend not to get eight to ten hours of sleep it could create huge problems.…
Eighth grade is going well so far for the following reasons. One reason is, I met a lot of new friends. Another reason is, I have foods with my friend Payton, and we have lunch together after that. Then, on B-Days I have lunch with my friend Taylor, Lucia, and Sarah. I love my teachers because they are all nice, caring, and funny.…
“Classes before 8:30am threatens children’s health, safety, and academic performance”according to www.npr.org. This is the case at many middle schools across the US. Some people say that Middle school start times should stay the same, some say move it earlier, but many people say that middle schools should start later. Middle school classes should start later than they do now because sleep affects performance in education, sleep helps boost mood and lowers anxiety, sleep deprived students are more prone to error. Students who sleep in perform better academically.…
Graduation speech Juan C “Nothing is over until the moment you stop trying.”- Bryan Dyson Being Comfortable has been a real struggle for me these past years i’ve been here in holmes.6th grade for a 5th grader is scary, not knowing what is coming for you. 7th grade becomes easier because you already have an idea of how junior high is. 8th is all about reflecting over 6th and 7th grade. But it’s not always about problems, stress and sadness, there's also good times, like when we went to camp duncan in 6th grade, when I performed in the V-Show in 7th grade,…
When I went into the 8th grade I was expecting to be on my best behavior and to have the best possible grades. But now that one quarter has flown by I am more relaxed and on top of things. I still try to get good grades though. Most of my classes are fun and I am challenged at times, but for the most part 8th grade is much easier than I expected.…
Some things such as sports, friends, and other interesting activities are things that students look forward to, not more work. But when there is too much homework, they are prevented from doing their extra-curricular activities. Life for most students is now revolving…
High School and Middle School Days Should Start Later Should middle school and high school days start later in the day? In my opinion, I don't think it should. The school day should not change their time later in the day. There may be really good pros to the idea, but there are also plenty of cons for delaying the school start times. These cons can affect both students and the teachers.…
As an eighth grader, I had no choice but to balance out my school work, making sure to do all the chores, and taking care of my three younger siblings at home by myself. My parents would be up in the hospital taking care of my now passed grandmother, who had cancer, while I, being the oldest child in the family, had to stay home alone to take care of my younger siblings. At first it was a difficult task for my 12-year old self to handle. While I was doing my homework or studying, I would have to stop what I was doing and help my siblings on their homework. Another scenario would be me cleaning up the house, even though there were homework waiting for me on the table.…
“Students entering high school – just at the time brains are in flux – still have the propensity to be impulsive and are prone to making mistakes” (Dr. Linda Stern). High school helps students not only study new material, but it also teach them to interact with the outer world. Upper classmen should interact with freshman in high school. Generally speaking, the period of high school transaction is hard for 9th graders, if they haven’t acquired the maturity level.…
With all of the stress that is already coming from school, homework only emphasizes that. There should be less homework because it takes up students time, causes a lot of stress, and causes many personal and social problems. A primary reason that students have less free time is that teachers assign an excessive amount of homework. Some students have said “Homework is all I have time for; there’s never…
