Has it ever come to mind that schools don’t have enough security? Security is genuinely important for all buildings, especially schools. However, Mckinley School is missing proper security systems. Without proper security, unimaginable some unfortunate occurrences could happen. Some people suggest that Mckinley School should get new security systems, and that is exactly what should happen.…
With teachers armed everything is much better knowing that a shooter can’t walk in and shoot whoever they…
Because teachers are not granted the right to defend themselves and others, children and adults across the nation are left at the mercy of murderers. The Second Amendment does not apply to schools, and many people believe it is not necessary at all due to a society where “well-trained police forces provide personal security” (Malcolm, 2016, p. 4). However, the right to bear arms is incredibly important and necessary even in a police protected environment. The system of school lockdown procedures is fatally flawed, leaving students anxiously hiding under desks in dark classrooms, potentially awaiting their demise, as if their hunter is unaware of its victims’ whereabouts. Sadly, the “first ones [at the scene of a crime] are the perpetrators and their victims” (LaRosa, 2005, p. 2), not the police.…
Across the country, we have many K-12 schools. Lots of those have school resource officers (SROs). But what are school resource officers? How did we end up with school resource officers in schools? What purpose do they have?…
Two articles focus on school shootings. The reasons why students become shooters is explained by Jesse Signal. The preventive actions that can be taken towards school shootings are given by Frank J. Robertz. The article "Deadly Dreams: What Motivates School Shootings?' written by Frank J. Robertz and published on Scientific American on July 30th, 2007 describes how young adults become school shooters. Robertz explains the process of how over a long time adolescents start being more descriptive of the killings and staging how they will do it.…
Another huge thing schools struggle with is gang affiliation. If you have a uniform it is more difficult for kids to show if they are in a gang.…
Imagine the idea of being defenseless against an attacker trying to wreck havoc on your teachers and fellow classmates. The worst feeling in the world is when you are helpless, and there is nothing you can do during a situation. Not allowing our teachers to carry a weapon while on school grounds is a great way to achieve this helpless feeling. Since 2013, there have been over two hundred school shootings in America- an average of nearly one a week. Between 2013 and 2015 an average of two shootings on K-12 schools took place per month.…
Keeping weapons out of the classroom and into professionals’ hands removes the risk of students finding and firing weapons. The evidence is clear that having armed security guards cuts response time and keeps children safe without having the distraction to the teachers inside the…
If a student’s intent on hurting people they would know who would have a gun and how to get it. Also school officials are not the police, they have not been trained for these types of situations and can do more harm than good. The police can respond calmly than someone who is not used to being in these situations. Teachers should not be leaping in and start shooting away trying to fight the attacker, they should be trying to get the students away safely. More guns being fired is not the solution in a mass shooting and would likely bring more casualties and be harmful than intended originally.…
I believe that they have the right to search for drugs or weapons at any time, in student’s lockers and bags. Every school wants to be clean of drugs and weapons because every school wants to look good. Not bad. When there school looks bad people won’t want to move to that school ,or people will want to move away because it is getting out of hand. I think in my opinion it's a great idea to check students lockers and bags every once in awhile.…
Also in the National Public Radio (NPR), it says that “New schools are now building doors between rooms and labeling classroom doors on the outside so police and first responders know what's inside.” All of this proves that schools should have security guards because the guards will know what is going on inside and outside of the school. Which will alert the officers and they can get into action quick. Schools should have armed security guards to protect the students from…
Living in the United States, we often see the flash of blue lights and hear the whir of sirens. We loudly proclaim that that person must have done something unlawful to warrant a stop by the police. We never think that the police may be wrong. They may have arrested someone for the wrong reasons or for no reason at all. When students come to school, they expect an education.…
School shootings can lead to other violence because of the sadness that was caused by the school shooting. People do not realize that school shootings do not only affect the students who attend that school, but school shootings affect others across America. There are many ways school shooting affect children. Many students may feel anxiety about the events that took place. A lot of people worry that a school shooting or similar events could happen in their school (Brantly 1).…
This issue is hindering students trying to achieve critical skills that are needed throughout the rest of their life. Additionally, it is affecting the students who are not involved in the disciplinary issues because it distracts the teachers and educators from presenting their education and critical skills they need. Also, these students strike fear into educators, parents, administrators, and most importantly, the students. “The growing fear and sense of helplessness felt by the nation for ensuring children’s safety in schools has served as a catalyst for an array of policy changes that have radically militarized schools through the expansion of the role of law enforcement measures. The transformation of our…
reality. In the tiny Texas town known as Harrold, the nearest police station is 30 miles away. This creates a problem in that if something happens, the police department can’t make it in time before disaster strikes. The Harrold independent School District also reported low funding and they weren't able to hire any security officers to be on campus during the school day.…
