The Pros of a Donald Trump Presidency American politics have always fascinated me. Where else can you find a medium that discusses some of the world's most pressing issues, while at the same time giving you an opportunity to analyze American behavior as it unfolds upon a political system that has influenced many other countries, including the Dominican Republic. But let’s be honest, politics can also be very dull, with its insipid candidates, anticlimactic voting system, and laws worded in such a way that would confuse even Joyce. Thank god for Donald Trump!…
One of the earliest politicians who displayed political courage and did not succumb to the three pressures that discourage political courage was the young senator from Massachusetts John Quincy Adams who joined the senate in 1803. Being the son of the former U.S President John Adams, the Federalist party pressured John Quincy Adams to live up to their expectations and point of views. However, from the beginning, John Quincy Adams had strong puritan views, that frequently collided with the viewpoints of his political party, leading him to break off quickly from the Federalist. For example, supporting the Louisiana Purchase and the call on Congress to enact an embargo against Great Britain, which in turn would have a dreadful effect on Massachusetts economy.…
Franklin Delano Roosevelt was the thirty-second President of the United States of America and was elected into office four times. This was a huge accomplishment because presidents were only supposed to be elected two times or be in office for a total of ten years. With this accomplishment came hardships. The United States was in turmoil. Roosevelt had to pull the United States out of The Great Depression and World War II.…
As the Americans were creating their new government, they kept the features of the government they did not want in mind. They wanted to ensure that their government was very different from the monarchy that Britain had by trying to make a central government where its powers were not necessarily weak, but where the power rested in the people. Another feature that the Americans did not want in their new government was unequal representation. They despised the lack of representation they had in Parliament, and as they created their new government they ensured that every state was represented equally so the concerns of the people could be properly addressed. Because of this, the American public was adamant that the new government’s powers were…
Executive privilege is a right held by the executive branch that allows the president to withhold information and while the Constitution does not grant this power to the executive explicitly, presidents have justified executive privilege using the Constitution’s separation of powers doctrine and the role of the executive branch in foreign affairs (O’Brien). The sole organ theory also asserts that the president alone acts as a representative on behalf of the country when dealing with foreign nations and in issues of international conflict (O’Brien). With regards to the treaty with Great Britain, Washington has the ability to invoke executive privilege in this case based on implied and explicit powers in the Constitution, the separation of powers doctrine, and precedent set by the Supreme Court. Certain powers are implicit…
When people began judging president Trump for the idea of a ban on Muslims entering the United States, he quoted as a relevant historical event, World War II and the proclamations issued by then-President Franklin D. Roosevelt empowering the authorities to send away Japanese, German and Italian immigrants. In 1942, Roosevelt delivered an executive order that sent Japanese-Americans, many of them families that had been settled in the United States for generations, they were sent to so-called internment camps established along the West Coast. Trump described Roosevelt's policies as "far worse," but history experts have suggested the former president's wartime decisions weren't a good example for Trump to use at all. While Americans initially…
The Constitution, written in 1787 and ratified in 1789 was the plan for governing America. It establishes itself as the “supreme Law of the Land.” It consists of a preamble, and articles that separate the powers of government into three branches (executive, legislative and judicial), with each branch having specific, but also limited, responsibilities. The Constitution also divides governing powers between the state and the federal governments, with the federal government having the power over international affairs and the states having the power to govern issues within their own boundaries. The last article explains how the Constitution can be ratified.…
Term limits are defined as statutory limitations placed on the number of terms that officeholders may serve and are typically specified in a constitution (term limits). In 1947, after president Roosevelt’s death, Congress passed the 22nd amendment establishing presidential term limits and was ratified by the states in 1951 (Ultius). The 22nd amendment to the constitution of the United States declares that the nation’s president cannot be elected to more than two four-year terms (Benjamin). The constitutions of several U.S. states apply similar limits on the terms of the state’s respective governors, however, the limitations vary with each state across the country. Some states have enforced term limit policies while other states have no policy.…
1. The President’s various activities reflect the various roles of the presidency. The President of the United States plays various roles, such as chief of state, chief executive, commander-in-chief, and party leader. The President also serves as the chief administrator, chief diplomat, chief legislator, and chief citizen. The President has a very busy schedule, and must try to play all of these roles while paying attention to his many constituencies.…
Donald John Trump is the 45th and current president of the United States , in office since January 20, 2017. To be president/the elected head of a republican state, by being elected by several amounts of people that believe and or see the future of that state with that particular individual as their president making decisions. Such as critical decisions, that may sacrifice other important issues or peoples priorities, but in the end will not be only helping the future of that state physical or mental wise. Being president comes with accomplishments for its state, as well as sacrifices, making the best decision for the state and its people.…
Ever since the Revolutionary War which has won the freedom of the newly founded country of America from the British, the founding fathers made the Constitution to create a new form of government after the Articles of Confederation failed to maintain a strong and stable government. From the day the Constitution was put into place, it has been added to by other laws and amendments which add strength between what the people, the federal, and state is allowed to do with some exceptions of the law. For more than 200 years, the Constitution has helped the United States of America to maintain stability even during the tough times of war and peace. The first reason is because of how the three branches of government are set up in the United States of America which is the legislative branch, the executive branch, and the judicial branch. The main roles of these three branches are that the legislature branch…
The United States Constitution is one of the shortest, longest standing, and most ambiguous constitutions in the world. This document establishes a democratic republic of many states under one federal government. In outlining the responsibilities and powers of each branch of the government and how they relate to state governments, many questions are left unanswered. Though this constitution outlines legislation’s role fairly clearly, it is far too vague concerning executive and judicial roles and the relationship between state and federal government.…
The Executive Branch contains the President and his Cabinet. The President acts as Head of State, which is the Chief Representative of the United States. The Cabinet is appointed by the President and carries out the duties of the Executive office under the authority of the President. There are multiple government agency’s that the president appoints the heads of, including the CIA, EPA and many more, the President also appoints the head of over 50 independent government agencies.…
The candidates of this election cycle have strong, differing opinions. Many American citizens believe that in this election, they have to choose between the lesser of two evils. They either do not like either of the candidates or do not agree with everything they are representing. Several issues have been debated about during these presidential debates, but the most important were healthcare, strengthening the economy, and abortion. Based on all of our candidates’ opinions on the situations, Donald Trump would be the ideal person to be the president of the United States (U.S.) for the next four years.…
To begin with I agree to disagree with this question because all though Nixon has failed his country he is still human and no human is perfect or should ever be expected to be perfect. As Nixon being president he has a lot of expectations and choices to make to either better the country or destroy the country. He is ultimately in control and maybe it caused a burden on him into making the choices and had made. Each individual can look at it from different angles to tell if he made the right choices dealing with the water gate. If he chooses to make the wrong choices knowing exactly what he was doing then he ultimately deserves all the negative feedback from the people of the United States because him being the President at the time he should have been making the best choices for the country.…
