Pros And Cons Of Being A Mandated Reporter

1. A. Immunity is related to mandated reporting if a mandated reporter does notice signs of abuse, they will not be getting in any trouble for reporting it. This means they can’t get sued for reporting signs of child abuse (McCoy & Keen, 2014). This also applies to a permissive reporter. Many health care works, teachers, nurses and doctors wouldn’t want to report because they were scared of the consequences (McCoy & Keen, 2014). Now they don’t have to worry about that. This could apply to me as a mandated reporter because I could make a claim that a child is being abused, the CPS could check it out and find no proof of child abuse. I wouldn’t get in trouble for reporting what I thought were signs of abuse.

The most severe came seems to be B, which is Jocelyn. I decided this case is the most severe because of how much Jocelyn has changed within the school year (McCoy & Keen, 2014). She did a total 360, and that is rare to see in kids. The information I would use to report to child protective service would include how she used to be outgoing, social, and now she is withdrawn and sad (McCoy & Keen, 2014). She won’t tell anyone why she is sad, and pulls away when someone touches her (McCoy & Keen, 2014). Her step-father moved in recently and he makes her keep secrets (McCoy & Keen, 2014).
3. The responsibilities for intake and screening for a child protective service worker goes as first receiving reports of child maltreatment (McCoy & Keen, 2014). Then certified caseworkers determine safety concerns and what type of plan CPS would need if they got involved. (McCoy & Keen, 2014). They would also get in touch with the person who reported it, and see if they think it needs immediate attention (McCoy & Keen, 2014).
