According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, eight out of the ten highest-paying occupations in 2016 were some type of physician. The expenses and many years of schooling, along with the importance of these professions, are what justify a physician's large paycheck. Physicians can have very stressful jobs and hectic work schedules. On a typical day, doctors work in hospitals to examine patients, take medical histories, prescribe medications, and treat or assuage the pain of the ill and injured. Because the human body is so complex, there are many different areas of medicine in which physicians may specialize. Becoming a physician has the potential to provide an exciting work environment, continuous learning, and numerous specific career options.
