Hope in the sense that your background doesn’t matter. Speaking of background, I am from Ethiopia and the racial matters to me are interesting. When I came to America I knew I was coming to greatest country that embraces democracy, freedom of speech, pursuit of happiness and that everyone is equal. I was surprised when I came to America and I learned about slavery, segregation but I saw it as a symbol of how far the country has come. When I came to America I noticed that racism still existed but it was very subtle. In fact, I was surprised the people that people that were racist towards me were actually African Americans. They’re the ones that called me names, applied all the African stereotype type towards me. The integration to American culture was made harder was made harder cause I don’t speak that well, so they made fun of my accent. My few white classmates were the ones that actually that treated with respect and didn’t make fun of
