Weapons of destruction
On December 14, 2012 a school shooting happened in Sandy Hook Elementary School. The shooter killed many people and he killed himself. His weapon of choice was a semi automatic or commonly known as a assault weapon. The murder wasn’t stopped,but actions similar to his can be stopped in the future. If assault weapons were banned crime would be down. The loss of would be minimized. Assault weapons should be banned due to their destructive nature and history.
Assault weapons are far more dangerous than other guns. They shoot nearly a thousand bullets in a few seconds. This makes them more deadly than several handguns or other firearms that are not automatic. In addition, assault weapons have features that make killing …show more content…
This is because these weapons can be easily acquired. Certain gun stores sell these weapons for money to almost anyone. Any criminal can go out and buy one. Many mass shooters have used assault weapons (“Assault Weapons”). The American people are supplying mass shooters. This also makes criminals more likely to do crimes. The guns make shooters feel somewhat invincible, because the guns are faster and more destructive. Some say because of this “the military-style semiautomatic assault weapon, has become the weapon of choice for grievance killers” (Alters). Citizens shouldn’t let murders be more willing to kill. The Second Amendment in the Constitution says that all have the right to bear arms. The constitution can always be changed, so the second amendment can be changed. In addition, back then death from guns wasn’t the majorities of death tolls. “ The Second Amendment doesn't guarantee the right to kill numerous people in a few seconds” (Gerdes). The amendment wasn’t being made while assault weapons came. The weapons were too advanced from guns in the constitution age.Besides there is no reason to own these guns. Supporters say these guns are “military by nature and had no legitimate sporting purposes” (“ Assault weapons). Assault weapons are weapons of combat not guns for hunting or self defense.
