Pros And Cons Of Anti Abortion Essay

Whether one is pro-choice or pro-life, the topic of abortion awakens a lot of strong feelings and opinions. Is it the governments place to jump in and decide whether or not abortion should be legal? I do not believe an anti-abortion amendment should be made to the Constitution. While it is my personal opinion that abortion is a terrible thing and I would never have one myself, we need to think of the full implications of this amendment. Also, I still believe people should have the right to make that decision on a case by case basis. Which leads me to my first point, pregnancies need to be looked at in a case by case basis. There are so many things to take into account when facing pregnancy, it would hardly be fair to not take into account people’s personal situations. For example, in the case of rape, incest, and addiction. Is it fair to bring a child into the world if it is likely to have birth defects inherited though its parents recessive genes? I do not believe an anti-abortion amendment should be made to the Constitution. Again, let me state that I believe abortion is a horrific action. I, personally, do not support it under any circumstances. However, we are living in the U.S. We are led by an elected president, not a dictator. In this country, we live under a constitutional democracy, not an authoritarian government. Our government should not have the power to make this enormous decision about a woman’s body. If we tell people they do not have the right to make this healthcare decision, what other human rights could be threatened?
