Ethics and Animal Research Ever since Charles Darwin, animals have been used for research in many ways from psychological research to testing the sensitivity of shampoos on skin. This has led to lots of discoveries benefitting society but, animal research also has its flaws as well. Experiments on animals can cause physical and psychological damage to animals. Even though many laws throughout history have been put in place to try and protect them there’s still plenty of problems as well as loop holes that can cause serious problems for the animals. The first of these laws put in place was in 1876 called the “Cruelty to Animals of 1876.” Over time more and more laws have been implemented to help the treatment of research animals. With animal testing, many new medicines, some that have saved many lives, have now been available that weren’t years before. On the flip side, however, if animal testing has negative consequences, it can cause great harm, as well as fatality, for the animal.” It’s obviously very important that we save the lives of many people but when researching lab testing of animals and looking at images of what happens to them when a lab test fails leads me to wonder if animal testing is worth it. As a society, we’ve progressed incredibly far scientifically there are now alternatives to this kind of testing. According to the Humane Society there are now nearly fifty alternative methods and strategies to testing that don’t involve
