Pros And Cons Of Abortion In California

Decent Essays
Despite the significant factors mentioned above, opponents of the abortion procedure believe otherwise. They argue for keeping abortion in California in order for women to have a say about what they can do with their bodies and it would only do more good than harm. To validate their point, opponents argue that women have the right to choose whether they want to seek an abortion or not. By having that choice, abortion empowers women because it gives them control over their own bodies. Women’s rights shouldn’t be taken away and as the saying goes that it’s her body, it’s her choice, it goes to what’s right for the mother and not to “restrict a woman's decision-making ability and allow politicians to make decisions for her,” says the ACLU's Leveille.

Any woman that has ever had a late-term abortion knowingly and willingly committed fetal homicide. According to Dr. Jen Gunter, an OB/GYN and a pain medicine physician, "1,186 late-term abortions were conducted in 2012" (Gunter). That equals 1,186 lives that were ripped from this world... futures stripped from human beings. Although a fetus may not be a life since it relies on a host to survive, late-term abortion should be made illegal because the fetus can feel the pain of the D&X procedure, the D&X procedure is harmful to the mother, and women are using abortion as a form of birth control rather than a form of termination in a time of crisis.…

The End of Life Option Act is indeed a topic of great controversy for many professions and people in general throughout our society and others across the world. Physician-assisted suicide laws are especially controversial for people who are highly religious, as you mentioned. Research suggests that liberal Protestants, Jews, and those with no religious affiliations are typically supportive of physician-assisted suicide, while conservative Protestants and Catholics tend to be greatly opposed (as cited in Burdette, Hill, & Moulton, 2005). Along the same lines, I also found it interesting that conservative Protestant and Catholics are generally resistant toward the termination of treatment in the event of an incurable disease (as cited in Burdette,…

One case that helped win this right was the Roe vs. Wade Case.…

Supreme Court case Roe v. Wade proved that abortion is a women’s choice and part of her rights as an American citizen. Seven out of the nine justices voted on giving extended abortion rights to American women. Abortion is an extremely personal decision between a woman, her family, and doctor. Politicians and government officials have no place or say about the choices a women makes with her body. The activists that are pro-choice also recognize that health care and education help reduce the number of unintended pregnancies and thereby also diminishes the need for abortions.…

Over the past decades, women in America have been fighting for equal rights. According to John Markoff, “Rivals for elective office assiduously courted New Jersey’s women voters until the legislature wrote a new, explicitly males-only rule into its 1807 constitution.” (88) It was not until 1973 that women gained the right to abort a fetus that they were bearing within their own body. Although women have gained many rights, they still today are fighting to keep their right to abort a fetus. Many individuals notice that there are underlying issues with suppressing abortion, but others oppose the idea of an abortion.…

Some feel that abortion goes against their morals and religious beliefs. Others strongly believe that abortion is a woman’s right to decide. Personally, I believe it is a woman’s choice, because they know what is best for them. This debate between being for or against abortion has been going on since Roe won the Roe v. Wade case in 1973. As we have learned from history classes, Roe was a soon-to-be-mother who tried Texas’ laws because she wanted an abortion.…

Abortion should be a part of a country’s contraception policy. People should plan their families and society must allow women to end unwanted pregnancies in order to deal with failures of birth control, cases of rape and cases of incest. Abortion should be legalized but discouraged. Legal, because it is a choice; discouraged because there are other more effective ways to prevent pregnancy than abortion. Abortion is all about allowing a woman to make her own decisions, in relation to her age, financial stability, relationship stability, and mental and physical capabilities.…
