Murder or a women’s right? This is what the abortion controversy comes down to. Abortion has quickly become a very current controversial issue. Most people are either completely for it or absolutely against it. Lately, the topic of abortion has grown in popularity with just about everyone. Women should have the right to an abortion because children who were unintended suffer more consequences, in some cases women have been raped, and keeping the pregnancy can negatively affect the mother’s health. Children who were unintended suffer more consequences than children who were planned. If a mother keeps a baby that is accidental, they tend to grow up with more complications. These issues often include social problems, poverty, child abuse, and juvenile delinquency (Russo). Abortion would prevent issues like this in children. Children who were unplanned by their mothers had lower self-esteem 23 years after birth (Russo). Children don’t deserve to have these problems just because they were not planned and abortion allows more babies to grow up healthy. Although there is a chance, it is extremely slim. Two out of every 100 women are in need of a doctor or hospital after a medical abortion (Is Medical Abortion Dangerous). Lots of women remain completely healthy after an abortion. Not having legal abortions would be much more harmful, with women attempting to do abortions themselves. If mothers are denied abortions, many of them could hurt themselves doing it on their own. According to article “Is Medical Abortion Dangerous”, 1 in every 10 women dies during childbirth. Less than 1 in every 100,000 women who use medical abortion die, making medical abortions safer than childbirth.
