Husbands or fathers in general are under appreciated in this era. A woman can get pregnant and never let the man know, thus making him just a sperm donor. On the flip side the male can decide not to be a part of the child's life thus labeling him as a deadbeat dad. Men are also at a disadvantage for the fact that the woman can also tell him he is the father of a child when indeed he is not. A woman can make a man look like a deadbeat dad when he has tried his hardest to be a part of his child's life. Husbands and fathers are important in families because it impacts a child's feeling of stability, a father could save his childs life in case of illness and father doesn't necessarily have to share DNA with his child.
Stability is important in a child's development starting at birth. Stability can impact a child either positively or negatively. Negative forms can be bad grades, poor decisions or depression. Anything from a blood transfusion, bone marrow transplant or donating an organ such as a kidney could mean the difference of life or death. It is important if a father is donating blood that it be donated in the particular child's name. “If the blood is just a direct blood donation and is not needed, the blood is wasted” (Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital of New York-Presbyterian). Bone marrow transplantation or BMT “was found to be effective in treating certain malignant and nonmalignant diseases that cause the marrow to produce either abnormal blood cells or very low numbers of normal cells” (Penn Medicine 1994). A biological parent versus a dad (caregiver with no DNA factor) can mean the difference in life or death of a
