Pros And Cons Of A Semicolon

Decent Essays
There's nothing wrong with a man being cheap on a woman, unless it will lead to romance; the best people are labeled as cheap bastards. They'll only come out their pockets and spend on a possibility that things are going someplace.

I break the rules sometimes, but really a semicolon can't be used without a complete sentence. A complete sentence is an independent clause. Dependent clauses stand alone. Therefore, a semicolon shouldn't be used with a sentence not expressing a complete thought.

To start, when Della cut her hair, Jim said that there was not “a haircut or a shave or a shampoo that could make me like my girl any less” (Henry 107). This shows that Jim does not love Della for her hair, even though it may be a very defining feature of her, Jim didn't like her any less. Secondly, Della cut her hair to buy a present that “had surely been made for Jim and no one else” (Henry 106).…
