To start off, I chose this career because the prison system has always fascinated me. The first time I had ever seen a prison, I thought it was cool because of how secure it was. Also, you can not forget the benefits of this job. Some benefits of this job are being paid well, work regular shifts(8 hour shifts), and get receive training from your employers. These benefits can sometimes outweigh the negative parts of this job. Some disadvantages of this job are sometimes these officers have to stay over and work longer shifts(8-16 hour shifts). I do not mind long shifts, long shifts help you get more experience and get you to learn more about your job. Also, you can not forget about how stressful this job is, corrections officers can be attacked or killed by an inmate so they always have to be on high alert. Also, I believe that our incarceration rate is insane, because we have the highest incarceration rate in the world. All I want to do is help make sure that the prisons are secure and the people are safe.

A correctional officer 's working environment can vary because with some correctional facilities being modern, well lit, air-conditioned and ventilated while others are old, overcrowded, and noisy.
