Greetings class,
In order to answer this week’s question, I have to identify that I am a United States Air Force Enlisted Accessions Recruiter and I will give an Air Force Recruiting perspective down to the recruit level.
First off, the United States Air Force is actively hiring candidates that possess the highest level of moral, physical and academic standard. The following criteria is what we are looking for:
Citizenship, Non-Conscientious objector, MORALS (law violations within Air Force acceptance), Age, Physical (medical history & tattoos/piercings/body modifications), Education, Dependents (within Air Force tolerance), Drug use (within Air Force tolerance) and Credit History. First, let’s look at the situation from the Air Force's level.
The Air Force Recruiting Squadron Headquarters provides oversight on a strategic level by providing guidance on what type of applicants we need to be putting into the Air Force based on the former entry criteria. Furthermore, they task us out to provide X amount of bodies each month (goal/quota). The upper echelon, would like members to possess the highest level of moral character because of the sensitive nature of the Air Force's mission. Now, I will identify a view down at the Recruiter level.

In the article ‘The Draft would Compel Us to share the Sacrifice’ author Charles Rangel says that drafting people into the military would help us share the sacrifice of the war effort when needed. This is not true as a result of forcing us into the military we are inclined to not have a passion to assist our country for the reason that serving our country was not our choice. Moreover, when we are not motivated to achieve anything we are more inclined that we will complete it with less effort. Therefore, this article is ineffective due to the fact that the author doesn’t apprehend the attitudes of the people who are forced into entering the military due to the draft.…

The Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act of 1994 (USERRA) establishes a security of employment for the members that protect and serve their country. This Act can be approached from a number of ways and appear both beneficial and challenging. First looking at the benefits, the act protects current and past uniformed service members to ensure that if they were called to duty that they have a place to return to. Honestly, this is the right thing to do. Their intent of serving their country and protecting those that live within the United States should be acknowledged and rewarded.…

The military draft, or conscription, has been used four times in American history during times of national and international conflict. Some people feel that the American government should reinstate the military draft. We should not reinstate the military draft because there is currently no need for a draft, the draft requirements are unfair and inconsistent, and those who are unwillingly drafted would demoralize the overall military with their lack of commitment and cause a break down of comradery and teamwork between soldiers. The military draft has been used four times in American history: the Civil War, World War I, World War II, and the Cold War (including the Korean and Vietnam War).…

The AMSP uses the best-qualified applicant criteria for admission versus a branch quota system. Unfortunately, under current AMEDD policy officers applying to the AMSP are limited to AOC of 67A and 67J. This restriction needlessly limits the available pool of applicants within AMEDD. It would be more advantageous for AMEDD to expand its available applicant pool to the best-qualified officer system, which could increase AMEDD officers selected for the AMSP. b. “The magic happens when you step outside your comfort zone.” This proverb sums up everything I went through when I recently attended the Air Force Academy’s Summer Seminar in July. While there, I was pushed well beyond my limits. We, the attendees, did strenuous physical training sessions at roughly a mile above sea level, woke up before the sun rose, attended sample classes, and studied tons of military knowledge while learning about the Air Force Academy and the admission process. It was truly a challenge being there, and I loved every minute of it!…

Before a Citizen decides to join the U.S. Army they have a preconceived notion of what an Army soldier is, what an Army soldier represents, and how life as a United States Army Soldier will be like. They contemplate how their friends, family, and the public will perceive them when they wear the uniform. Past and present Army leaders have worked diligently to form and maintain an Army image of disciplined, well trained, and true professional soldiers. Over the past 15 years, this outstanding image of Army Soldiers has dwindled to an image of soft, undisciplined, and lazy soldiers who care more about themselves and less about what it means to wear the uniform. The Army has brought forth an idea to combat this growing problem with a campaign…
