According to the official site for Proposition 47 “an independent state agency projects that Proposition 47 will produce hundreds of millions of dollars annually in savings” (About) . I think that any money we can invest in crime prevention techniques, especially for children who are at an impressionable age, we should do so by any means necessary. I cannot understand why any other state besides California has not adopted Proposition 47, or something similar, on these grounds alone. I know that many people would fail, and have failed, to see that this is a possibility however I truly believe it is. Those who are convicted of a felony and sentenced to prison cannot truly rehabilitate. In order to be rehabilitated one must have a means to basic things such as a job, housing, and education. When someone is in jail they lose everything, they will most likely never be employed, they may find themselves homeless and they will never be able to obtain an education. How is that justice? In my opinion we need to be promoting healthy living skills, we need to give offenders support and education. How does this tie into proposition 47? It would give these offenders an opportunity to succeed by allowing them to have a misdemeanor offense versus a felony offense. The difference is astronomical in terms of rehabilitation; a chance of resentencing can change
