Macbeth Final Essay
Who has the power to influence us to do what we do and why? In Shakespeare’s, The Tragedy of Macbeth, Macbeth changes from being a honorable gentleman into a irrational killer. The existent question here is what or who influenced him to change? We recognize that he was influenced by many people throughout the play to commit appalling actions. The most influential to Macbeth in the play were the weird sisters. The weird sisters were the furthermost influential in the play because they prophesied Macbeth would become king and they told Macbeth to be mindful of Macduff.
The first reason the weird sisters were the most influential in the play is that they had the power to tell prophesy’s. The second witch tells Macbeth, “All hail Macbeth! Hail to thee, thane of Cawdor!” (I.i.54). Macbeth later becomes the thane of Cawdor so he has confidence in the other prophesy that the third witch pronounces, “All hail Macbeth! Thou shalt be king hereafter!” (I.i.55). Macbeth seeing that the first prophesy came true, decided to take the second prophesy into his own hands and slaughter king Duncan.

Lady Macbeth argues, “What cannot you and I perform upon Th’ unguarded Duncan?” (I.vii.69-70). Lady Macbeth drives Macbeth to commit the assassination showing to some people that she is the most influential. However, this isn’t the case because if the witches didn’t tell Macbeth he was to become king she wouldn’t have had Macbeth kill Duncan. Lady Macbeth reads, “… these Weird sisters saluted me and referred me to the coming on of time with, ‘Hail king thou shalt be’” (I.v.7-8). Once Lady Macbeth heard the prophecy from the witches she decided to plan Duncan’s murder, had she not heard this she most likely wouldn’t have even considered slaying the king, so the witches are the most
