The Use of Propaganda by the Government Everyone has seen the iconic poster of Uncle Sam pointing at you with the words, “I want you!”. This is one of many examples of the use of propaganda by the U.S. government. Whether good or bad, propaganda is ever present in our everyday lives. Propaganda can come in many forms; through posters, people, and television programs. It can be used in many ways; to gain support for their cause, justify the waste of taxpayer money, and prove that what they are doing is right. The government can also use propaganda to justify the waste of taxpayer money. After seeing many commercials promoting Obamacare, I started to believe that it was a very good program. I then asked my parents about Obamacare, they told …show more content…
President Obama is currently using propaganda to promote his Obamacare plan. I have seen ads on the television that try to gain support for his healthcare plan that is failing. These ads claim that since obamacare, the number of people who have healthcare insurance has increased exponentially. But, what they fail to mention is that the premiums of plans sold on healthcare.gov, will increase an average of 22% in 2017, with some states’ premiums increasing over 100% (abcnews.go.com). This shows that the government will promote their agendas even if they are not working. This type of propaganda is also established in the book 1984 by George Orwell. During hate week, the speaker has to change his speech to be against eastasia instead of eurasia. Even though the people were holding up anti-Eurasia signs the speaker influences them to hate Eastasia instead of Eurasia (Orwell 107). This is a slippery slope that our government is going down. If we start believing everything that they say, we will be like mindless slaves to the government who will believe anything and everything they tell us. Gaining public support for their cause is not the only way that the government uses propaganda to influence public …show more content…
When I watched the presidential debates, I saw Donald Trump ask Hillary Clinton about the rising premiums of Obamacare. She then answered that about 20,000,000 people now have healthcare and didn’t before Obamacare. This is true (obamacarefacts.com). The proponents of Obamacare often cite this fact as their argument to keep Obamacare. However, while they say that it helps low to middle income families, they don’t mention that those families will receive a fine if they do not accept Obamacare. This shows that the United States government will try to make one positive outweigh many negatives. They cling to any positive effect of their agendas and stick with that as their only reason that what they are proposing or enacting is for the greater good. This is the government using propaganda through people to try to prove that their agenda is right and the other side’s is

“Americans without Obamacare will have to pay a $2,000 fine for healthcare” (Services Excluded Under Obamacare). Many Americans think buying a plan under Obamacare will save them money, however, this theory has been proven wrong. The cost will most likely either be the same or go up because of Obamacare. Americans are paying more and losing money over an unconstitutional law (Wolverton). Not only is Obamacare a law, it is a tax on the people of the United States.…

When ideas need to be sold and there are an overabundance of suppliers, sensationalism is used by journalists, politicians, and news media to emphasize the extremes of language, and excite people toward a specific side without explanation as to why. History shows that numerous companies ignorantly make outrageous claims about their products in commercials, many presidential candidates proclaim amazing things they can do for America, while insisting other candidates would only make the country worse, and news reporters often blindly inform about the latest threats to human life. News stations are so oversaturated with the extremes of language that words may begin to lose meaning. While most journalists use outrage or euphoria to get views, the…

Obamacare will upend health insurance coverage for millions (“Losing Health..” 1-2). Obamacare allows Americans to stay with whichever insurance provider they choose; however, the insurance plan must meet the requirements that Obamacare mandated. The Obama Administration set regulations stating that other insurance plans cannot be used if there is “an increase in co-payments of more than $5, or an increase in the employee’s share of premiums paid by more than 5 percent” (1-2). Americans who rely on themselves to purchase health insurance tend to seek out economical insurance plans because they are living paycheck to paycheck just like millions of other Americans. These economical plans to do not meet the mandated requirements of the Obama Administration, so this has directly led to a 20% drop in insurance coverage for Americans(1-2).…

The purpose of a government is to protect the individual rights of its citizens. Kurt Vonnegut Jr., the author of “Harrison Begeron”, and James McTeigue, the director of V for Vendetta, portray the abrasive relationship between governments and their citizens. The story and film both share the same conflicts with governments using hostility in order to keep its citizens under strict control. When the government takes away its citizens’ natural born rights, citizens lose their power of having individuality. Citizens should have the right to express their grief with the government, as well has having their own individual views without conflict.…

The first article of this series discussed narrative creation and how political candidates purposely keep their campaign slogans open ended. Particularly, so narrative creation could take place. That allows their audiences to create narratives based more on ideologies rather than actual political ideas and or discussion or ideas that a candidate expresses. Wherein the last article of this series focused on breaking down “Make America Great Again,” and focused on discussing how ideological narrative creation is problematic because it often creates an uncritical audiences, which Richard Paul and Linda Elder defined as, “people who are overly impressed by power, authority, and celebrity they will also allow someone to control or lead them as long as they make their perceived values seem correct.”…

Argumentative Essay - Artifice “The most essential skill in political theater and a consumer culture is artifice. Political leaders, who use the tools of mass propaganda to create a sense of faux intimacy with citizens, no longer need to be competent, sincere, or honest,” Chris Hedges states, in “Empire of Illusion.” Based on that, the author is trying to convince his readers that publically, when people advertise for themselves or other things, false information could be thrown out there. This is a problem because when people are advertising, the audience would like to know all about what’s being advertised.…

In The Prince by Niccolo Machiavelli, he describes what makes a poor ruler versus what makes a great ruler. Even in a democracy like America, there are many similarities and differences between The Prince and the past two presidents in America. The United States has, also, followed parts of what Machiavelli has said; while it has also disregarded much of what Machiavelli has said.…

The media outlets have become a polarized institution which utilized a broad range of common fallacies to convey messages to their audience. One example is the recent presidential election. Some of the media outlets virtually create a lot of distractions. And, too often, there are many irrelevancies which were calculated to distract viewers, in particular, the American people from the real issues at large. We have recently heard of reported instances of “Fake News.”…
