At centre stage we have a horizontal shadow screen which is just a thin white cloth held up by a black frame. The shadow screen begins with a photo of Tracy Grimshaw and the A Current Affair TV program. Besides the shadow screen John and Rory are sitting on stools either side of the shadow screen. John (Gracy Trimshaw is sitting on the right-hand side and Rory (Kyle Brovloski-schwienburger) sits on the left. The lights are dimmed to a point where it is easy to see the displayed image on the shadow screen but not to dark that you cannot see Rory and Johns puppets. Limited time, limited access to his subjects, and even self-imposed limitations rooted in Pennebaker’s cinema verite style all could have led to a narrow-scoped film lacking in depth and clarity. Instead however, Pennebaker flourishes in this world of limitations. His resulting documentary uses camera angles, audio, and humor to humanize the often-cold world of political campaigns. At the beginning of the film the Clinton campaign is still small, focused on winning the primaries.…
