Prompts In The Odyssey

Reflecting on the college application process, I noticed that the college essays were stressed very highly, but all the prompts ask for the same thing. Whether they are asking for an eventful moment, your passion, a hobby, or a chosen outsourced prompt, many students seem to convey the same messages in their essays. To get around this, one must ask a more inconspicuous prompt where the student’s character shows through their unique ideas. A prompt that is universal, conveys a meaning, and is always answered uniquely must ask for a narrative: Write a creative story. Walking through the woods one night, Agatha Johansson could not wait to arrive at her friend’s house. With a clear sky above, a subtle wind whistling by, and sudden sounds of animals, Agatha became anxious. She was determined to push on and prove her older brother wrong. Through Agatha’s perseverance the author defines an approach to challenges. The dispute between Agatha and her brother presents a competitive nature and a mission to prove their opposition wrong. Agatha’s continual push through the forest exhibits a determined person who will finish a challenge, possibly using the enemy as fuel for their cause as Agatha who used her fear to push her to her goal. The ending of the story illustrates the author’s views on fears. The contrast of the mouse to the evil woods demonstrates that people are sometimes afraid of nothing or fret over the smaller things in life when it is easier to overcome. The personification of the environment around Agatha and its effect displays that the author believes people can create their own fear and allow it to overwhelm them.
