The ASPCA is a non-profit organization which stands for American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals that works to prevent animal neglect. The purpose of the ASPCA commercial is to encourage people to stop animal cruelty. Every day many animals are found abandoned and abused. The advertisement tells viewers that animals are living creatures that need food, shelter, and care. The advertisement shows the scenes of the animals that are malnourished, injured, and locked up in the cage. The ASPCA advertisement mostly comes on prime time cable channels like Animal Planet, CBC, ABC, and it also appears on YouTube. In the advertisement there is a singer name Sarah McLachlan, the spokesperson of the ASPCA, holding and petting the dog while her song “Arms of an Angel” is playing in the background. Sarah McLachlan mentions about the facts about animal cruelty and the need for people adopting and donating money to the organization. McLachlan tells the audience to “be an angel” for an animal in need, meaning that people need to be compassionate. The advertisement shows facts and statistics about animal abuse along with the images of the animals. The facts from the commercial states that “every single hour, an animal is violently abused.” These facts make the existence of animal abuse more of a reality for some viewers. This commercial encourages viewers to donate money to help save the poor animals. The target audiences of this advertisement are both male and female of any age group and pet owners.
