The Promise of America, spoken in different languages all around the world but all the same meaning and destination. To come to this land of liberty and freedom for a new beginning and a new opportunity that has been seemingly unavailable. To receive justice, fairness, equality, and a lifetime of happiness. The Promise of America, prominently known around the world as a new beginning for anyone who steps foot on this land. An example of the Promise of America is the illustration portrayed of numerous amounts of immigrants arriving to America for the first time. Before the immigrants arrived, they were having hardships back at home leading them to journey to the New World. America was the place for all these people. Everyone whom was determined to enhance their lives and there was no better place to start. What this statement means is that America was a refuge for all these people seeking fee religion, justice, and respect. This later became all of these individuals new nurturing place of settlement, a new home. The last example is in Franklin D. Roosevelt’s speech “Address on the Occasion of the Fiftieth Anniversary of the Statue of Liberty, October 28th, 1936”. Paragraph 2 states “…denied to the eyes of those few who travelled in greater luxury”. What that means is that all the things that they dreamt about having in life was difficult to even come to thought, but when they saw America’s shore appear before their eyes, a feeling of optimism took over. Also in paragraph 4, it states “ They not only found freedom in the New World, but by their effort and devotion, they made the New World’s freedom safer, richer, more far reaching, more capable of growth”. The immigrants came here for a fresh start and that’s what they received. From farmers to families to people of different religions, this place of freedom was one where no matter who you were, everyone came together as one hard working/happy nation and that was the promise to all the
